What is thigh liposuction?
Thigh liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes stubborn fat deposits from up to four areas of the thighs:
- Inner thigh
- Outer thigh
- Anterior (front of) thigh, and
- Posterior (back of) thigh
Remember that the goal of liposuction isn’t to remove as much fat as possible but to reshape your body to be closer to your aesthetic goals.
As genetics greatly influences where we store fat in our thighs, the areas that benefit most from liposuction vary from person to person.
Excessive fat in outer thighs leads to ‘saddlebags’ which make our lower body look unathletic and pear-shaped.
Meanwhile, excessive inner thigh fat means our thighs are touching, which we must say is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL–but you won’t get a thigh gap like below.
And while it’s hard to show fat deposits on the front and back of our thighs, we think you can tell if yours would benefit from liposuction as it still affects your overall thigh circumference.
Before committing to liposuction, do bear in mind that while it can remove fat, it cannot change bone structure, so if you naturally have wider or narrower hips, the most liposuction can do is remove excess fat covering it up.
Post recovery expectations
As thighs are a large body part (they’re the second largest muscle behind our glutes) and heavily involved in daily activity, recovery can take more time and discipline.
Give yourself up to 14 days of rest immediately after the procedure, and we do mean proper rest (gym rats, resist the urge!)
Generally, six months post-operation is where most have fully recovered.
Recovery Timeline:
- First Week: Localised swelling, numbness, bruising, and a need for compression garments.
- 2 to 4 Weeks: Swelling decreases, and many patients resume light activities by week four, though compression garments still needed.
- 6 Weeks: Swelling has subsided tremendously, with about 90% of final results visible.
- 6 Months: Full results typically seen.
Early on in recovery, the thighs can appear bloated due to fluid retention, and bruising – this is normal.
Yes, it’s discouraging, but remember these effects are temporary.
